Tosh : “Next Best Address For Hippies”
Is a small village running parallel to the River Tosh. Perched roughly at an altitude of 2400 mts, Tosh is at the far end of the Parvati valley region. Due to its Pristine nature and Serene Habitat , Its emerging out to be the ‘Next Best Address’ for the Hippies after Kasol, in Himachal Pradesh. Tosh is a 3 kms uphill trek from Barshaini & is well connected by a motorable road too. Tosh Valley offers many more Vistas of nature apart from Tosh village. One can trek above Tosh village to Tosh Glacier (4300 mts) & Animal pass (4550 mts). Tosh has well accommodated rooms with tandoors implanted to keep visitors warm. The sights of Towering Himalayan peaks like Kullu Makalu, Devachan, Papsura & Deo Tibba Range are magnificent. Well…that covers the basic.
Our Travel Calendar :
Day 1 :
Started with an early morning Journey (Wow..!!all excited), Soon it became a very tiresome journey, after 12 long hours in the same bus we were (like those from the Russian Sleep Experiment). But we somehow managed to reach Bhuntar with broken Knee Caps & Dislocated Elbow joints.
Tired all of us…. But excited too!!
Reached Bhuntar at around 8 pm, and enquired about the buses to Kasol but since it was dark, Obviously there were no local buses to kasol. (That’s why i always propose an Overnight Journey from Delhi) Well.. something had to be done!!
So, One of us with a good communication skills(we thought), Enquired about a Private Transport & Finally ended up booking a Mahindra Maxx FOR 3000 INR (Not that supernatural with communications…after all..!!)
Well.. that was Extortion..!!
Ohh…I almost forgot to tell you that we met two guys in the bus, yeahh…they were going to Kasol too. So we agreed upon sharing the rent.. Pheww..!!.
Two hours..!! Yes… it took us another Two hours to reach kasol coz it was dark.
Finally landed in kasol (Read About Kasol) for the first time in the history of my life (Enlightened.. i felt!!).
Halo on my Head!!
Halo on my Head!!
Ohh…sorry..Coming out of Enlightenment mode!!
I Looked around and i can’t believe that i am in Kasol, So Breezy & Calm & yeah… Full of israelis!! (you know)
Enlightenment mode initializing….
Wake up Idiot..!!my mind shouted!! we still have to find a room for us all to stay at night.
Nights are chilling even in the month of may.
So again, Our supernatural communicator friend, checked hotels after hotels in search of a decent & yeah.. a Cheap hotel.
But unlike last time he did wonders this time, & found a decent room with a triple bed, fine bathroom & a balcony.
ALL that for 700 INR Per night!!
Visiting the Cafe :
After Inspecting the room, we all freshened up and left the room in search of food.
After checking into dozens of Restaurants, Cafes & Dhabas. We came across this really cool & reasonable Cafe cum Hut!!
Sadly i don’t remember the name but yeah it’s after crossing the bridge of Kasol.
Look at the cafe..we were given a private room & treatment like Celebrities (So Generous).
Apart from our Communicator friend, Another hidden talent was travelling with us.
Yes….This time a photographer (but a good one). Here…take a look..!!
Sigh……!!!! What a day..!!
What more can i expect from this day. Wonderful experience (Excluding that bus journey).
After dining, we came back to our luxurious apartment & Dozed off (all of us).
This marks the End of the great day.
Day 2 :
After our long night sleep, We woke up Early today at 11 am (some are still sleeping).
Well that gives us all ample time to freshen up & get ready.
Around 1 pm we came out of our hotel to eat something before continuing.
Now that our plan was to hire a bullet and go to Malana & come back & trek to Tosh (Super Bollywood).
We soon realised that it’s already too late . It was 2 pm since we were chatting like girls and checking out israelis (again you’re smart).
Plus the hiring rate for a bullet would cost us an arm & a leg (1500 to 2000 / Day). Since we were 5 People, we had to hire 3 bullets ( So, we dropped it).
Every body is a extortionist in Kasol (Except for our hotel owner).
So, We decided to head to Tosh. Having absolutely no knowledge of which road to take, we (our communicator friend) asked the way to tosh.
It was then, when we (I) first heard of Manikaran sahib, which falls in the way to Tosh & Kheerganga.
we started our hike On Foot till Manikaran (Since the bus would take time to arrive at Kasol).
It was a never forgetting experience, As i kept Stones in the bag of a friend.
He never caught a glimpse of me, keeping the stones in his bag. As he was quite occupied with clicking pictures of our communicator friend (All part of the conspiracy).
We started again, But only this time it was very difficult for us to control our laughter (seeing him carrying the load with joy).
We Continued our laughter with eyes and didn’t realize that we have reached Manikaran.
A big Gurudwara Manikaran Sahib is.
Visiting Manikaran Sahib :
Loads of sikh pilgrims coming from Punjab (esp.) & other regions. Many other tourists & travellers from across the globe.
We visited the Shrine of Manikaran & Sat (with sparkling eyes) for a delicious Langar.
Upon eating the Langar (twice), we came down with more than full stomachs.
Where is our communicator friend..???(he wasn’t in our sight).
There…!! Our friend (Unaware of the stones) shouted!!
But wait!! what is he doing..?? Carrying two oil Canisters.
Sheva bhi karlo ab thodi…??Bhukkado!!! He yelled.!! as he came near.
With more than full bellies, we were barely able to move ourselves & now we had to carry two oil Canisters (great).
With every other Canister, Everybody thought we shouldn’t have stuffed that Langar like that.
Then after the Seva & Photo session (esp. our unaware friend) we checked about the route to Tosh.
A bus till Barshaini followed by a 3 kms trek will land us in Tosh (easy-peasy).
Little did we know about the upcoming perils.
We boarded the last bus to Barshaini at around 6 pm from Manikaran.
Bus full of Israeli Girls (this time i’ll be quite clear) with those blue eyes.
Neither of us wanted to get down from the bus as we were seeing every passenger deboarding the bus.
Finally the conductor broke our Concentration saying : O Bhai ji…aa gya Barshani..!!
We then deboarded the bus with extreme sorrow (but it had to be done).
Upon getting down, we ordered tea and took sips of the tea (completely ignoring the fact that soon it will be Dark).
Yar bhai ji Tosh ka rasta kaha se hai..!! Asked our Communicator friend.
We were then enlightened to both (Trek & Motor) routes by the tea stall Manager.
Hire a taxi (not out genre) or trek, two options we had..!!
Yeah…we brave souls, took the challenging trek route to Tosh.
Filled with all the energy in the universe, we started our trek (thru a Shortcut, Guided by the tea stall manager).
It was hardly 20 minutes uphill trek, Wait..!! Until we were all exhausted and sat down to relax under a big tree.
It was then, When our Friend (the one with the stones in his bag) discovered about the stones in his bag coz he felt cold and reached his bag for his Jacket.
2 Min. Silence for the poor soul.
Then we burst out with laughters & cracking Jokes about him carrying the bag all along with joy.
Note > Only If you are a Daredevil like us, & dare to take the Shortcut to Tosh remember the tree & don’t go straight uphill.
Yes that’s the wrong way… Fortunately when we were chilling & making jokes on our STONER friend, some villagers (angels) guided us to the right path, which is going in the right hand direction of the tree.
¥(Tree) ⇒( Right direction)
⇑ (Starting trek)
I hope this makes sense to you.
Okay… soon we realised that it’s dark already and we need to keep moving.
Now we hardly took few steps & it was pitch black.
We could not see any paths, our cellphones were all down (due to selfies) and we were all stuck.
Many terrifying thoughts expeditiously passed my mind.
But thankfully nothing of that sort happened.
we somehow managed to get out of the jungle and continued our trek alongside the road. phew.!!
Never waste your time if its going be dark (we learned it the hard way!!).
We finally arrived at Tosh around 8 pm and didn’t bother to check for dirt cheap rooms.
But luckily the accommodation in Tosh is relatively very cheaper than that in Kasol.
We Booked two spacious rooms for just 500 INR (& this time we didn’t need any charm for that).
Food relatively is a bit steep in Tosh but Delicious.
After dining, we dozed off (all of us).
Woke up early (seriously this time) at 6:30 am.
What an Enchanting first view of the day (Everyone feels enlightened now).
We had to start our trek to Kheerganga , so didn’t get much time with Tosh Valley.
But we were told about the treks to Tosh Glacier (4300 mts) & Animal pass (4550 mts).
We had our Breakfast of MOMOs & Maggi noodles in a local Dhaba cum Restro and descended to Barshaini.
Well….That marks the end of our Tosh Expedition and the next destination Kheerganga was an add-on.
So, the conclusion is we did not get to spend much time with Tosh but if you visit tosh consider your options to trek to Tosh Glacier & Animal Pass. I wish you all the very best for your trip to Tosh. Happy Trekking.
Keep reading & Don’t forget to share.
